Graphite velour is a supple velour in 100% polyester with a dense, soft pile and no felt backing. It weighs 360 g/m² and is 145 cm wide.

Graphite is a very dark, near-black grey. It is cooler than espresso and softer in look than pure black. We suggest it for sofas and benches. It goes with every other colour and suits furniture that gets a lot of use.

This is the thin one of our two velour qualities. It falls more softly, shapes more easily around rounded edges and can be sewn on an ordinary sewing machine. For firm upholstery on seats and backs, the upholstery velour with a felt backing is the better choice.

Velour has a pile that reflects light differently depending on its direction. That gives the soft sheen, but it also means every piece must be cut the same way. Then the colour stays even from side to side.

At 140,000 Martindale the abrasion resistance is far above the roughly 30,000 usually considered enough for furniture in daily home use. The pilling test gives grade 5, the top of the scale, so the surface stays neat in normal use.

Upholsterers and smaller furniture makers use the fabric for new pieces and for re-covering, and interior shops stock it as a standard line. All colours share the same specifications, so they can be mixed across a collection. Dark and strong colours can transfer to light fabrics, especially when damp, so keep that in mind if the velour will sit against light cushions or throws.

Keep the velour neat with a soft brush that follows the pile. Treat stains with a lightly dampened cloth, and always test on a spot that does not show first.
