Caramel is a warm, brownish shade often chosen as lining for jackets, blazers and classic coats when you want an inside in a calm tone-on-tone look. The colour also works for skirts and dresses, especially with outer fabrics in brown, green, bordeaux and dark blue.

Acetate lining provides a smooth, lightly glossy finish that keeps the inside looking neat and helps garments glide more easily over the layer underneath. The low weight makes the quality suitable when you want to line without changing the weight of the finished garment too much. The lining can also provide more controlled drape, especially when the outer fabric has texture or tends to catch on underlying layers.

For fabric shops, caramel is a strong core colour because it fits many colour cards and can be sold year-round. Smaller producers often use it as a standard lining in repeated styles where the same shade and quality must be reorderable without changing fit.

Sew with a fine needle and press with low heat. Wash gently at low temperature and avoid tumble drying. Always test on a scrap if the lining will be combined with a dark outer fabric.
