Wine red boiled wool is often used for jackets, short coats, waistcoats and warm skirts where a stable quality with a soft touch is required. The colour has depth and works well for classic autumn and winter garments, as well as as a contrast in accessories.
The bouclé construction provides more texture and body than many woven wool qualities. This makes the fabric suitable when you want a surface that looks calm but still has life in the texture. The combination of wool on the face and polyester on the reverse can also provide more practical handling during cutting and sewing, especially for small-batch production.
Fabric shops often choose wine red as a permanent colour in a wool range because it is easy to sell at multiple price points and across target groups. Smaller clothing manufacturers use it for repeat styles where the same look is needed when reordering.
Wash as wool. Use a wool programme and wool detergent. Avoid tumble drying. Dry flat and optionally apply light steam from a distance.
