Taupe is a mid-dark grey-brown with a warm, slightly pink tone. It is darker and browner than sand and lighter than elephant grey. We suggest it for headboards and footstools. It goes with linen, cream, oak and black metal.
This is the sturdier of our two velour qualities. The felt backing gives the fabric body, so it pulls neatly over foam and edges without creasing. For cushions and throws, where the fabric should fall softly, the thin velour without felt is the better choice.
Velour has a pile that reflects light differently depending on its direction. That gives the soft sheen, but it also means every piece must be cut the same way. Then the colour stays even from side to side.
At 125,000 Martindale the abrasion resistance is far above the roughly 30,000 usually considered enough for furniture in daily home use. That means the fabric also works for office chairs and seating in waiting rooms and cafés.
Upholsterers and smaller furniture makers use the fabric for new pieces and for re-covering, and interior shops stock it as a standard line. All colours share the same specifications, so they can be mixed across a collection.
Keep the velour neat with a soft brush that follows the pile. Treat stains with a lightly dampened cloth, and always test on a spot that does not show first.
