Double Gauze Petrol

Description

Petrol is woven double gauze in 100% cotton, 130 g/m² and 135 cm wide. The deep blue-green shade sits calm and matte in a lightweight fabric with a natural surface.

Double gauze is two thin layers of gauze attached together. This creates air between the layers, a soft drape and a light, crinkled texture typical of muslin. The fabric feels cool against the skin and helps move heat away.

Petrol is used for summer dresses, loose shirts, tunics and babywear in sizes 50 to adult. The dark shade suits both childrenswear and womenswear and pairs well with light neutrals. The colour is consistent from roll to roll, so panels can be sewn together without visible shifts, and it makes fabric consumption easy to plan in production.

Petrol is often ordered by fabric shops, clothing manufacturers and hobby sewists who sew with lightweight summer qualities. The deep shade works well as a dark base colour in a range where the rest is kept light and natural. Many keep the colour in stock for summer production because it is easy to resell by the metre. Wash at 30 degrees inside out. Pre-washing is recommended, as double gauze shrinks slightly the first few times. Avoid tumble drying and hang to dry.
